Anti-Aging A Big Subject

I don't know about you but I hate the idea of aging.

I don't' believe I am a vain person.

I do believe I can do things to take care of myself and slow down the visual signs of aging.

I believe aging is a curse put on us and we live under it from the day we are born.

Of course my Husband asks me if I would prefer the alternative.

And that has been true in the past that the grave was the only alternative to aging.

Lets talk about the words 'anti-aging'.

I love Google.com search the information that I can find is amazing. And Wikipedia.org usually comes through with very interesting information. So lets look at the words anti-aging. This is what I find... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_extension

Quote:
"Life extension, also known as anti-aging medicine, experimental gerontology, and biomedical gerontology, refers to attempts to slow down or reverse the processes of aging to extend both the maximum and average lifespan. Some researchers in this area, and "life extensionists" or "longevists" (who wish to achieve longer lives for themselves), believe that future breakthroughs in tissue rejuvenation with stem cells, molecular repair, and organ replacement (such as with artificial organs or xenotransplantations) will eventually enable humans to have indefinite lifespans through complete rejuvenation to a youthful condition."

"The sale of putative anti-aging products such as nutrition, physical fitness, skin care, hormone replacements, vitamins, supplements and herbs has become a lucrative industry, with the US market generating about $50 billion of revenue each year Medical experts state that the use of such products has not been shown to affect the aging process, and many claims of anti-aging medicine advocates have been roundly criticized by medical experts, including the American Medical Association Bioethicists question whether and how the human lifespan should be extended."

Wow, that is a mouth full !

Wonderfully Made

We are fearfully and wonderfully made! And Science, Biology, and Medicine are really making strides in understanding the human body. Yet I believe we are just beginning.

Antioxidants, just what are they? A great easy place to get that answer is a wonderful site called Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antioxidant

"An antioxidant is a molecule capable of slowing or preventing the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that transfers electrons from a substance to an oxidizing agent. Oxidation reactions can produce free radicals, which start chain reactions that damage cells. Antioxidants terminate these chain reactions by removing free radical intermediates, and inhibit other oxidation reactions by being oxidized themselves. As a result, antioxidants are often reducing agents…"

Simply put oxidation and free radicals attack our bodies speeding up the aging process or rusting if you like.

I have been hearing of more and more products that are addressing the oxidation and free radical problems that our bodies are dealing with every day. I was at a store yesterday and they were giving out samples of Acacia berry juice very high antioxidants, another sample had packaged fresh pineapple and fresh strawberries in a thick puréed form. All of these were delicious.

So looking around, we are being provided with great products good for preventative health and premature aging.

Oh and don’t forget about fresh fruit and vegetables, great at giving a body antioxidant help. I personally like vine ripened and organically grown. The flavor is usually delicious and I don’t feel like I am eating a piece of flavorless cardboard. Yes they cost more! I guess you get what you pay for!

Tic-Tic-Tic...

The clock ticks every day the same for everyone from the day we are born on this earth.

We can't wait to get to 18 then for a while everything is great till about 28 when we begin to realize we are getting older and we don't like what is happening to our bodies year after year time takes its toll. For some it is more dramatic than others.
  • family genetics
  • where we live
  • what we do for exercise
  • what we eat during our life
  • anything we put into or on our body
Each of these determine how well a individual ages!

Many have dreamt of finding the fountain of youth for millennia, literature tells of dreams of it.

Science has tried ideas to prolong life in many ways. And many people have been willing to be their guinea pigs. If you have enough money you can even have your body frozen while they are finding the answer to aging, or till they can clone a new body for you. Also while they figured out how to get you into the body they cloned. Personally I find this rather creepy!

Scientists are now learning what causes ageing. Some companies have already developed patented products to stop the advancement of aging because they have found out a key to why we age.

So now everyone is selling anti-aging products. Just make sure you read between the lines and do your homework on whether they can deliver what they imply they can do. As I study and use products, I will post what I find so come back and visit my blog or click RSS and become a fan.

Qualifications

What qualifies me to do this blog, you may ask?

First, I have been a Cosmetologist since 1974.

Second, I am not as young as I look! Nor do I feel as old as I am!

Third, I don’t know about you, but for me aging sucks! And I am doing something about it!
